Why I Love Restoring Homes

When we bought our admirable Victorian house, we decided to use suffolk latches to ensure the house was keeping in image with its history. To guarantee we completed the venture properly, I researched the time period in history in which it was built. From this research I could use as many iron monger products as possible to guarantee I got the look just right. When I looked around the cottage I saw there were lots of ways to make it seem like a Victorian house. I also spent a lot of time pondering about who had built the home and their life at the time.

Part of the setup also included restoring the barn and storage houses so we used butterfly hinges to make the interior and exterior doors appear like they came straight from the Victorian Golden age. From a historic ironmongery shop in the town, I managed to find the ideal products that also had a beeswax finish. We were very startled at the small-town interest in our plans including the neighbors who visited offering their suggestions and ideas. Always, I will remain so vibrant about preserving the early character features and respecting the heritage of our country cottage.
